Barratt Homes gets green light for plans for next phase of Chippenham housing development

Barratt Homes has been granted planning permission for phase five of Birds Marsh View, a new development that will create hundreds of new homes for north Chippenham.

The housebuilder has received planning consent for phase five of development at Birds Marsh View, which includes 37 new two, three and four-bedroom homes, with construction works due to start next year.

This is in addition to the 271 homes currently being built by Barratt Homes and 84 under construction by David Wilson Homes. Once complete, this new community will include up to 750 homes in total.

Set within 11 acres of open space, Birds Marsh View is a development of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom homes, alongside play areas, parks, allotments a proposed school and a local centre.

Residents began moving into their new homes in September 2018 with more than 200 people now living in the new neighbourhood.

Andrea Pilgrim, sales director at Barratt Bristol, which covers the wider South West area, says: “We are pleased to be able to press ahead with the next phase of development at Birds Marsh View, which is already proving to be a very popular new neighbourhood with people drawn to its significant public open space and excellent transport connectivity.

“With many residents settled into their new homes, the construction of phase four under way and now plans for phase five approved, it’s an exciting time for this important project to bring much-needed housing to north Chippenham.”

Just two miles from the centre of Chippenham and close to key commuter links such as the M4 and Chippenham Train Station, providing easy access to London, Bath, Bristol and Swindon, Birds Marsh View will also include 6.5km of cycleways and footpaths, with Birds Marsh Wood on its doorstep.
