Bristol architect becomes first female treasurer of Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists

A Bristol architect has become the first woman appointed to the post of honorary treasurer at the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.

Stacey Taylor, who started in the construction industry at the age of 16 as an apprentice, is now a chartered architectural technologist after a 21-year career.

She is currently a senior technical coordinator at Barratt Homes Bristol.

Stacey has been actively involved in CIAT for over 10 years as a member of the finance committee and has seen close up the organisation’s role in supporting members so they can build capability and competence for the future.

“I was delighted to be voted into this role at the AGM,” said Stacey, who is based in Barratt Homes Bristol’s head office.

“It is a chance to give something back to an industry I care about, to have a voice in how things are governed and the direction and development of the Institute, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for my professional growth, too.”

Stacey’s first address to the membership will be next year at the AGM in Dublin.

“There are so many exciting things going on in this industry, not only as more women enter construction and more apprentices shape their careers in the sector, but as we focus on building the best and most environmentally friendly homes,” said Stacey.

“We need to focus on and navigate challenges around sustainability and the environment in a positive way. I am really glad to be a part of what is happening in this arena.”

Architectural technologists specialise in the application of building science and technology to architectural and construction projects.
