Editorial Policy

This Editorial Policy explains the values and integrity of Business Biscuit editorial content. See also: About Business Biscuit.

  • To the best of our knowledge, article sources are trustworthy and legitimate. Where possible, sources are directly linked.
  • Any copy or content complies with the law, regulations and codes of practice, and does not discriminate on grounds of age, gender, race or religion.
  • Business Biscuit may refuse, reject, cancel or make changes to submitted copy or content to comply with legal, regulatory or moral obligations; or to avoid infringing the rights of a third party. Business Biscuit reserves full editorial control over any content on businessbiscuit.com and its other platforms/channels.

Supplied/suggested content

  • Business Biscuit content must be original and not ‘copy and paste’ versions of articles or posts placed on other sites. To this end, we prefer submissions for news items to be factual bullet points rather than pre-written pieces.
  • Supplied copy or content does not breach contract, trademark, rights or copyright and that any applicable licences or permissions for images, video, text or otherwise have been obtained and/or paid for, and that it is not libellous of any person, business or organisation.
  • Any supplier of content which Business Biscuit publishes in good faith, and after reasonable due diligence, which then later proves to breach this editorial policy or brings Business Biscuit into disrepute, will fully indemnify Business Biscuit for any loss or damage suffered as a result.

Expert of the Week

  • Unless otherwise sourced, Expert of the Week is reserved for Business Biscuit clients or affiliate partners.
  • To protect the integrity of the site and SEO ranking, Expert of the Week must be an original article and not syndicated content. However, syndicated content which has been sufficiently personalised or edited will be accepted.
  • Expert of the Week is written in first person, based on the professional experience or research of the writer. We encourage quoting other professional parties (naming individuals and business/organisation) and use of reputable research/sources or links to relevant legislation.
  • Expert of the Week is objective information, professional opinion or advice written by experienced professional people, and not a sales vehicle (it generates trust in the writer to support their sales).
  • We reserve the right to edit for grammatical corrections, house style and so on.
  • We reserve the right to reject the article if we do not consider it to comply with this Policy.
  • Minimum length 500 words.

Expert of the Week guidance

We want expert pieces that aren’t published anywhere else, and give a fresh perspective or genuinely helpful advice.

Themes/subjects:-

  • Relevant professional opinion on current news or discussion which affects regional businesses.
  • Reveal new legislation or official guidelines – and how to comply with them.
  • ‘How to advice’ for a specific purpose (rather than superficial guidelines or tips).
  • Make it specific rather than generalised or vague by using facts and figures, dates, time lines and so on.
  • Make it trustworthy by giving readers links to reputable sources and further reading from trustworthy sources (which could be your own blog posts or articles).
