Wiltshire solicitor celebrates 60 years in law
A Wiltshire solicitor is celebrating a staggering 60 years in the legal profession.
Andrew Gill, of Forrester Sylvester Mackett, qualified as a solicitor on February 1, 1965 and has been in professional practice ever since.
Andrew joined Forrester and Forrester, now Forrester Sylvester Mackett in 1988 after working as partner in a West Midlands practice for over 20 years.
His years of wide-ranging work have given him a thorough appreciation of the needs of both personal and business clients.
Andrew now concentrates on non-contentious property-related work.
Andrew is also a Notary Public based on the High Street in Malmesbury. He acts for clients in the areas of North Wiltshire and the South Cotswolds, including Swindon, Chippenham and further afield. He was appointed as a Notary Public in 1974. Andrew’s practice as a Notary is independent of FSM and is regulated by the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Aged 82, Andrew travels from his home in Herefordshire to the Malmesbury office of Forrester Sylvester Mackett once a week to see clients and colleagues – who will be celebrating his milestone with him at a formal dinner.
Andrew said: “I consider myself fortunate having been able to meet and help a wide range of clients which has given some challenges and many interesting situations. I like to think that working has kept me young!
“I have certainly seen some massive changes in the legal profession and the way it does its work over the last 60 years – not all of them, sadly, for the better.
“Nevertheless, my time with Forrester and Forrester and Forrester Sylvester Mackett has been fulfilling and I will miss the involvement when the time comes to pack up.”
FSM partner Matthew Paterson said: “Andrew is the best lawyer I have ever encountered and thankfully, we have always been on the same side!
“He has a worthwhile opinion on almost every legal matter and combines his erudition with humour, dedication and a can-do attitude.”
