Avon Protection changes name, wins £15 million defence contract

Avon Protection, the personal protection company which manufactures defence equipment for military, police, industrial and fire service personnel from its factory in Melksham, has won a £15 million contract from the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency, and announced it is changing its name.

The US$19.5 million order is part of the second-generation Advanced Combat Helmet framework contract announced in February 2022, valued at up to US$204 million over a five-year period.

Jos Sclater, CEO of Avon Protection plc, told shareholders: “Our market-leading protection technologies and contract frameworks position us well in the current geopolitical environment.

“We have successfully rebased the business to create a fitter, stronger organisation and it is encouraging to see the benefits of our transformation plan and continuous improvement culture drive improved financial performance.

We still have a lot of work to do but are increasingly confident that our strategic initiatives will enable us to meet our medium-term targets.”

In separate news, the company has been renamed Avon Technologies. The move has been made to avoid confusion with its strategic business units and the wider group, and “recognises Avon’s heritage while embracing the next stage of its development – accelerating growth through innovation in technology.”

The two strategic business unit names – Avon Protection and Team Wendy – remain unchanged.
