Triodos Bank named as Which? eco provider
Bristol-based ethical bank Triodos has been named as a top eco provider by consumer champion Which?
Triodos is one of only two banks in the UK to receive the accolade.
From its in-depth research process, Which? analysed the environmental credentials of the UK’s leading current account providers, working with the non-governmental campaign groups Reclaim Finance and Global Canopy to investigate policies on fossil fuels, agriculture and deforestation, alongside decarbonisation targets and transparency of reporting.
Triodos was recognised for having no exposure to fossil fuels, and having one of the highest scores for deforestation policies on key commodities.
The analysis also explored transparency amongst financial providers, and whether customers can clearly review how their money is being invested.
Triodos publishes information about every organisation that it lends to – a level of transparency that is not available with any other UK current account provider.
The analysis comes as the world’s biggest banks have backtracked on their climate commitments, providing $869 billion of oil and gas funding in 2024 – marking an increase in their fossil fuel financing for the first time since 2021.
In April 2025, Triodos announced its decision to leave the Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA) due to a vote by the majority of member banks to lower the Alliance’s climate ambitions and set less strict requirements.
Roger Hattam, director of retail banking at Triodos Bank UK, said: “Given the worrying retreat on environmental and ethical commitments in recent months, this analysis is a timely reminder that where you bank matters.
“In our 30th anniversary year in the UK, this recognition of our sustained leadership should help anyone looking to take action and join an eco-friendly bank.”
