OVO Energy agrees takeover by E.ON
Bristol-headquartered energy firm OVO has agreed to sell its UK energy retail business to European giant E.ON.
The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, will create Britain’s largest household energy provider – overtaking Octopus Energy by number of domestic customers.
The deal will add OVO’s 4 million customers to E.ON’s existing 5.6 million UK customers, giving the combined business roughly 9.6 million to 9.7 million accounts.
The firms did not disclose the purchase price.
E.ON said the deal is aimed at accelerating consumer energy flexibility, expanding digital energy services, and strengthening its position in a major market.
The company also said existing tariffs will be honoured in full and customer service will remain unchanged during the review period.
