Earning more than £33.9K in Wiltshire? You’re making above average according to new report

If you work in Wiltshire and earn more than £33,900 a year you’re making more than the average, according to the 2025 Salary Guide from CMD Recruitment.

Every year the firm – which has branches in Melksham, Devizes, Swindon, and Bath – takes a deep dive into the world of work, crunching the numbers from 2024 and spotting the trends for the year ahead.

The latest report said the average Wiltshire salary in 2024 was £33,900 – an increase of £1,900 on 2023.

With an unemployment rate of two per cent – lower than the South West and national average, and 0.4 per cent lower than last year – employers are having to work harder to attract the right candidates.

The report notes that some sectors – including remote sales, software engineering, B2B sales, marketing, accountancy and finance, and IT have a surge in demand for staff. In fact, software engineers are more than 40 per cent more in demand than they were in 2023.

The report is packed with tips for employers trying to recruit in what remains a competitive market.

It examines the decline in remote working as employees return to the office after the long tail of Covid, and the values of Gen Z employees – and what they’re looking for from employers.

The report also looks at trends like the four day working week, and the Gig Economy 2.0 – driven by skilled professionals looking for flexible, project-based work – and how AI will impact employees and employers through the mid to late 2020s.

The report also analyses the salaries of multiple jobs across various sectors, giving business owners looking to employ staff an idea of how much a position will cost them.
