Bristol’s Anti Banquet will see CEOs sent to the kitchen while workers dine

Bristol is to host an Anti Banquet and is inviting the city’s businesses to purchase tables for their staff who wouldn’t usually attend snazzy corporate events.

While the workers are enjoying the event at Ashton Gate on Thursday, February 29 the bosses will be asked to roll up their sleeves and get busy in the kitchen – where they will be joined by some of the South West’s best chefs.

They include Anti Banquet organiser Josh Eggleton – of community food company Team Canteen – who will work alongside Peter Sanchez Iglesias, who runs two of Bristol’s most renowned restaurants, Michelin-starred Paco Tapas and Casa, and Ben Harvey, who is the executive chef at Bianchis and Pasta Loco.

Great British Menu finalist Jude Kereama will also join the kitchen lineup alongside Sunday Brunch presenter Simon Rimmer and pastry chef, Hannah Cately, who featured on Channel 4’s Bake Off: The Professionals.

Those CEOs who can’t cook – or won’t cook – will be invited to join the front-of-house team waiting on tables.

Outside the kitchen, entertainment will include comedy, live music, and a performance by the Invisible Circus. The night’s hosts will be comedian Jayde Adams and actor Joe Sims, who together star in the Bristol call centre television sitcom Ruby Speaking.

The initiative aims to raise £100,000 for Bristol’s food community initiatives and food charities. Bristol is one of the UK’s most unequal cities, with 12 per cent of its residents relying on food banks weekly and experiencing food insecurity.

Around 700 diners will be in attendance. Many firms will be pledging tables to emergency service personnel and charity workers as well as their own staff.

“This is a unique opportunity to make a real change for some of Bristol’s most vulnerable residents,” said Josh.

“Some brilliant chefs will be giving up their time to work alongside the leadership of Bristol businesses to create an amazing night for Bristol’s hard working charity sector, public sector teams and their own workforces.

“As the cost of living crisis worsens, we must secure the future of Bristol’s community food charities to make sure they can keep delivering their services to those most in need in our city.”
