Interaction designs ‘happy home’ for growing Bristol software developer

Award-winning software development company Ghyston is expanding into new future-proof offices in Bristol which have been created by workplace strategists Interaction to promote staff wellbeing.

Founded in 2012 by husband-and-wife team Emily and Ric Hill, Ghyston delivers cutting-edge software solutions for ambitious companies and employs around 60 people in Bristol.

The firm’s new 8,300 sq ft workspace on the fifth floor of The Programme, Bristol’s curved office building in All Saints Street, has been designed by Interaction to reflect Ghyston’s innovative and fun image in the tech industry.

The new office, with its focus on employee wellbeing and building a happy community, features a video gaming room, large breakout area with a pool table and a fully-equipped kitchen, where staff can cook lunch together.

It has also been designed to encourage collaborative working at Ghyston which was named one of the best places to work in the UK by employee engagement specialists Best Companies. The new workplace includes large open-plan desk space, several informal meeting areas and breakout tables.

Sustainability was another key aspect of the design project which involved reusing furniture and using local suppliers where possible. There are also many nods to Bristol in the interior styling which includes prints of the city and ceramics by local artists.

Ghyston co-founder Emily Hill said: “One of our core values is collaboration and working well together – and that’s exactly what our amazing new office space encourages.

“It has certainly exceeded our expectations on all levels. Interaction have taken our culture and transformed it into a productive working space that truly reflects who we are and how we work.”

Interaction’s Lauren Lloyd, who led the design project, said: “Ghyston have won many prestigious awards for their positive working culture, so it was crucial that their new workplace reflected this.

“They really understand the importance of providing a better workplace experience for their employees that blends work and wellbeing.”
