Private members’ club shortlisted for international design award
An exclusive private members’ club and co-working space in London, delivered by Bath-based office design firm Interaction for workspace operator x+why, is in the running to win a prestigious design award.
The premium workspace in Clapham’s iconic Arding & Hobbs building has been shortlisted for Workplace Fit Out Project of the Year at the 2026 Society of British & International Interior Design (SBID) Awards. The awards recognise, reward and celebrate excellence in interior design around the world.
Working to x+why’s rigorous design brief, Interaction has transformed the Grade II-listed former drapery store into a hospitality-led workspace. The building’s historic period details have been lovingly preserved and celebrated throughout the design.
The refurbished space features Clapham’s only private members’ club and restaurant – The Arding Rooms – alongside private serviced offices, dedicated desking, meeting rooms, breakout spaces and a rooftop terrace boasting panoramic views across London.
One of the standout design features is the building’s magnificent domed roof light, flooding the space with natural light, while the iconic clocktower has been transformed into a rooftop bar.
Martha Gray from Interaction said: “Together with x+why we took this empty, listed landmark and turned it into a vibrant coworking space and members’ club.
“It’s a characterful, community-led workspace that brings together heritage, flexibility, and a strong sense of identity. The coworking space was 50 per cent let before it even opened.
“We are thrilled that it has been shortlisted for this highly coveted international design award.”
The SBID awards are evaluated by leading industry experts and the design-conscious public can also vote for their favourite project at www.sbidawards.com
The winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony at the Royal Lancaster London on the 6th November 2026.
