Housebuilders’ golf day raises almost £20,000 for cancer charity
The charity drive of employees and contractors from Barratt David Wilson Homes South West has swung into action to raise much-needed funds for cancer charity Sarcoma UK.
Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, currently building a range of properties across Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, invited more than 130 to the event at Bowood Hotel & Spa in Calne.
They enjoyed play on the 18-hole PGA Golf Course and raised £19,676.61 for the charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments.
Ralph Hawkins, managing director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, said: “We’re supporting Sarcoma UK in memory of one of our friends and colleagues, Tim Blythe, who lost his life to soft tissue cancer in 2021 after battling the disease for eight years.
“Throughout his illness, Tim was grateful for the care he received from Sarcoma UK and it was his wish that we continue to support the charity.
“I’d like to thank all our contractors who supported this year’s event, either in person or via donations. The money raised will make a huge difference to people living with Sarcoma and other uncommon cancers across our communities.”
Kerry Reeves-Kneip, director of fundraising and communications at Sarcoma UK, added: “We are so grateful to Barratt David Wilson Homes for organising such a fabulous golf day event to raise funds for Sarcoma UK and awareness of sarcoma in the South West region.
“We rely on generous voluntary donations and the energy and imagination of our tireless fundraisers to do the work we do. The money raised at this event will go directly into funding vital research into sarcoma, offering support for anyone affected by the disease, and campaigning for better treatments.”
