Law firm backs charity for bereaved children from military families
Wiltshire law firm Goughs has adopted a charity for bereaved British Forces children as its charity of the year.
Scotty’s Little Soldiers provides children and young people who have lost a parent with emotional support and development opportunities.
With Wiltshire’s close ties to the military, Goughs has a long-established Armed Forces sector which provides specialist legal advice to those serving, as well as veterans of the Armed Forces.
Staff at the law firm will be raising money for the charity throughout the year in a variety of events and challenges, starting with the Corsham 10k on April 21 in which eight team members will be competing.
The Scotty’s May Marathon will then take place before a cycling challenge, Tour de Scotty, later in the Summer.
Goughs partner Emma Taylor said: “Once again we received so many incredibly worthy applications to become our Charity of the Year, that selecting just one was extremely tricky.
“Once narrowed down by the selection committee, the firm then voted for the charity they wanted to fundraise for and personally support.
“For me, supporting bereaved children in Wiltshire and beyond is something I am really proud to be part of. We look forward to seeing what the year ahead brings and what we can achieve collaboratively.”
Charity supports 650 bereaved children and young people
Nikki Scott, who founded Scotty’s in 2010, following the death of her husband Cpl Lee Scott in Afghanistan, said: “We currently support over 650 bereaved military children and young people aged up to 25 years.
“Money raised by Goughs will enable us to continue providing our members with a range of support throughout their childhood including access to one-to-one bereavement support, personal education and learning assistance, and fun activities such as holiday respite breaks and group events, all designed to remind them they are not alone.”
Andy Sloan, head of fundraising at Scotty’s Little Soldiers added: “The work we do is dependent on firms like Goughs stepping forward to show their support, so we are very grateful.
“The funds their staff and clients raise will directly impact the lives of bereaved military children across the UK and we will ensure they have a lot of fun taking part in our events.”
