Lawyers go the distance in Climategames challenge

Staff at law firm Clarke Willmott have gone the extra mile for the environment – after completing more than 5,000 hours of exercise and covering over 16,000 miles through a range of physical activity.

A total of 28 teams – almost 270 people – took part in the Clarke Willmott Climategames Challenge, achieving a 95 per cent engagement rate.

Employees logged more than 5,250 hours of exercise and collectively covered over 16,300 miles (26,250 km) through activities including running, swimming, cycling, gym workouts and daily walking.

The inclusive nature of the challenge ensured that everyone could participate in a way that suited their lifestyle and fitness level.

As a result of the collective effort, 1,000 trees will be planted later this year, creating a lasting environmental legacy and supporting biodiversity across the UK.

Karen Higgins, head of ESG at Clarke Willmott, said some participants had recorded more than 150 hours of exercise in a single month in June.

“This is a powerful example of how workplace wellbeing initiatives can contribute to wider sustainability goals by linking physical activity to tree planting and restoration and it was fantastic to see such a high level of engagement from colleagues right across the business,” she said.

“What made this challenge particularly powerful was its inclusivity. Everyone was able to take part in a way that suited their lifestyle, whether that was through daily walks or more intensive activity.

“The collective effort not only supported individual wellbeing but also delivered a meaningful environmental impact, demonstrating how small actions, when combined, can drive significant change.”
