Climate change charity seeks support to get polar explorers into schools
Climate change charity Wicked Weather Watch is asking businesses to support them to get polar explorers into schools.
The Corsham-based charity is helping to educate the next generation about climate change Arctic ecosystems, climate science, and sustainability.
Wicked Weather Watch sessions involve hands-on activities and virtual talks by arctic and polar explorers Sir David Hempleman-Adams, who founded the charity, and explorer and citizen scientist Hilde Fålun Strøm.
The Department of Education has set a groundbreaking requirement for all primary schools to implement a Climate Action Plan by September 2025, and Wicked Weather Watch has already reached nearly 30,000 pupils from more than 350 schools.
“More than 60 per cent of young people are worried about climate change,” said charity director Rhianna Davies-Smith.
“For many, a visit from WWW is their first educational encounter with climate change. Wicked Weather Watch strives to ensure these sessions are positive, empowering, and solution-focused, recognising the growing concern of eco-anxiety among children.
“By equipping pupils with a sense of purpose and an understanding of their role in protecting our planet, Wicked Weather Watch aims to inspire a future generation of compassionate, environmentally aware individuals who can make a meaningful difference.”
Sir David Hempleman-Adams said: “We hear about global warming on the news, but it can be difficult for people to fully appreciate the threat until it directly impacts them.
“I’ve seen massive changes since 1982 when I first went to the Arctic. The planet is ours to look after. Children think about this from a very early age, which is why Wicked Weather Watch is so important.“
Businesses can demonstrate ESG leadership, inspire change, and enhance their own brand visibility by supporting the charity through sponsorship or donations.
