Tech recycling firm shortlisted in UK Social Enterprise Awards 2024

Swindon-based tech recycling firm Green Machine has been shortlisted in two categories at the UK Social Enterprise Awards 2024.

The awards celebrate the achievements of the 131,000 social enterprises in the UK, which generate £60 billion for the national economy each year, while also tackling some of the biggest challenges facing people and planet.

Green Machine is in the running for Environmental Social Enterprise of the Year, and Tech for Good: Technology Social Enterprise of the Year.

Peter‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌ Holbrook CBE, chief executive of Social Enterprise UK, said: “Our Awards are the ultimate showcase of social enterprise impact and excellence – so those who made the shortlist represent the future of business, and a beacon of hope in turbulent times.

“‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌Despite economic challenges, these trailblazers are not only making profit but using it for the good of people and planet. ‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌

“Businesses big and small have a vital role to play in solving the problems we face as a society, and the social enterprises celebrated at our Awards give us all inspiration and motivation to do business better.” ‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Green Machine founder Simon Crisp said: “Our main goal is to have a positive impact on the environment.

“Electronics manufacturing typically involves the use of many chemicals, precious materials, and fossil fuels.

“By refurbishing and reusing technology that would otherwise go to waste, we are able to prevent pollution caused during the manufacturing or disposal of these products.

In the past five years, Green Machine Computers has decreased CO2 emissions (or equivalent) by 13,500 metric tonnes, which is the environmental equivalent of powering 1,701 homes for one year.

“In addition to our environmental efforts, we also aim to assist those who cannot afford technology.

“We believe that computer access is crucial for numerous daily activities, and we want everyone to be able to enjoy its benefits.”

The winners will be announced at London’s iconic Roundhouse on Wednesday, December 4.
