Employees take charge at electrical firm
A Swindon-based contractor specialising in electrical, fire & security, and renewables has become an Employee Owned Trust in its 21st year.
Abbey Group Services offers a range of services, from commercial fit-outs including offices, shops, and restaurants to residential properties, wiring everything from houses and extensions to entire apartment blocks.
The company has also moved into the renewables market, offering solar panel and EV charger fitting.
Among its more unusual projects are a 300-unit freezer farm for a Swindon pharmaceuticals firm, and maintaining the electrics at churches, stately homes, and even castles.
Now the company has become an Employee Owned Trust, securing the long-term future of the business and placing stewardship firmly in the hands of its employees.
Founder David Brookes worked with business growth expert Chalkhill Blue.
The process brought together a specialist team of advisers led by Chalkhill Blue, including legal support from Thrings and tax and accountancy expertise from Nephos Group.
Chalkhill Blue’s managing director Chris Spratling said: “”It’s been a privilege to help another successful business achieve its succession goals through employee ownership.
“Abbey Group Services has built an excellent reputation and a strong team over many years, making it an ideal candidate for an Employee Ownership Trust.
“We were delighted to lead the transaction and work alongside the teams at Thrings and Nephos to deliver a successful outcome.
The strategic mergers and acquisitions expert added: “Despite recent tax changes, employee ownership continues to be an attractive option for business owners who want to reward their employees, protect their legacy and secure the long-term future of their business.”
