Bristol Law Society appoints new president

Bristol Law Society has appointed Coralie Mckeivor, real estate director at Freeths, as its president.

Founded in 1770, BLS is the oldest law society in England and comprises around 7,500 members, who are governed by a president, vice president, various other officers and a council of solicitors – all from a plethora of different backgrounds.

The society takes an innovative and collaborative approach to working within and outside of the legal sector, and is at the forefront of many initiatives both nationally and regionally.

Coralie first joined BLS more than 10 years ago, and later joined the executive in 2018 as honorary secretary. She then went on to serve as senior vice president in 2023.

“It is with immense gratitude and excitement that I accept the honour of serving as President of BLS for the upcoming year,” said Coralie.

“To be entrusted with this role is not only a privilege but also an opportunity to contribute to the legacy of excellence that defines Bristol Law Society. To be part of this journey is both inspiring and humbling.”

Helen Read, chief executive of BLS, added: “We are delighted to welcome Coralie, one of our longest serving and dedicated Council members, into the role of president.

“Coralie will be well known to many of our members through her involvement over the years in the local junior lawyers division, the women lawyers division, The Law Society and of course through BLS, where in recent years she has really championed equality, diversity and inclusion in her role as co-chair of the committee.

“Those who know Coralie will know how much time and energy she puts into her voluntary roles, so we look forward to working with her in the coming year to realise her presidential aims of strengthening our community, promoting inclusivity and innovation, and leveraging new opportunities through our new formed committees.”

Coralie’s appointment follows other recent successes, after she was named EDI Champion of the Year at Property Week’s Inspiring Women in Property Awards 2023. She was praised by the judges for her ‘unique combination of empathy, passion and strategic thinking’.
