Good Energy unveils plans to help one million homes and businesses cut carbon from their energy and transport use by 2025
Renewable energy supplier Good Energy has said it wants to support one million homes and businesses cut carbon from their energy and transport use by 2025.
The Chippenham-based firm pledged to “make it simple to generate, share, store, use and travel by clean power by continuing to invest in products, services and businesses that help customers play an active role in the energy transition,” as it announced increased revenues of £146 million – up 11.8 per cent on the year.
Following the sale of its generation assets in January for £21.2 million in January, the company announced it was “now debt-free on a net basis.”
Overall customer numbers increased by 2.1 per cent to 277,300. Domestic customer numbers were up 1.1 per cent to 85,800 and business customers increased by 20 per cent to 11,300.
The number of electric vehicle drivers subscribing to its charging point app subsidiary Zap-Map increased by 125 per cent to 350,000. The company said further investment in Zap-Map was planned.
And CEO Nigel Pocklington took the opportunity to remind investors that the company had survived a year when 60 per cent of energy suppliers failed.
“In 2021, 28 energy supply companies failed, hitting customers’ bills and their trust in the industry,” he said.
“This was the result of both poor business practices and the UK’s continued reliance on volatile global fossil fuel markets.
“There has never been a greater need for clean energy products from a reliable, real renewable, trusted company.
“In December, I called the high cost of energy a national crisis. This has been exacerbated by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
“Whilst renewables should play a vital role in our long-term energy strategy, only the Government can bring short term respite.
“The response to date has been inadequate, and further support will undoubtedly be needed.”
Looking to the year ahead, he added “We will continue to invest for the future, including in Zap-Map to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.
“Following a resilient performance in 2021 despite significant market challenges, we’re focused on delivering on our exciting, new strategy – helping customers cut carbon, and supporting the growth of renewable generation at a time it has never been more needed.”
