Fashion designer and food entrepreneur bring style and spice to Salisbury’s Big Business Event

Fashion designer Wayne Hemingway and jerk sauce entrepreneur Levi Roots are the guest speakers at Salisbury’s Big Business Event, which runs over three days next week.

Wayne Hemingway, the founder of the Red or Dead fashion label, will be the guest speaker on the first day of the event – Wednesday, May 7.

His label won the Fashion Council’s Streetstyle Designer of the Year Award for an unprecedented three consecutive years in 1996, 1997 and 1998.

After 21 consecutive seasons on the catwalk at London Fashion Week, Wayne and his wife Gerardine sold Red or Dead in a multi million cash sale. In 1999, having sold Red or Dead they set up HemingwayDesign, which specializes in affordable and social design.

HemingwayDesign’s clients include Coca Cola, John Lewis Partnership, B&Q, Sainsbury’s, Sky TV and Sony, and created the uniform worn by all 87,000 UK staff at McDonald’s.

Levi RootsRastafarian musician Levi Roots – the guest speaker on Thursday, May 8 – shot to fame when he secured £50,000 from two investors on Dragons’ Den to launch his barbecue and jerk sauce.

The rapid popularity of Reggae Reggae Sauce has seen an expansion of the brand, to include a wide range of sauces and products. His first cookery book, Reggae Reggae Cookbook was published in 2008.His second book, Caribbean Food Made Easy was published in 2009 and was accompanied by a BBC2 series of the same name. Levi’s latest book, Grill it with Levi was published in 2013.

Levi has also published a business book entitled You Can Get It If You Really Want which charts his success and provides tips on how to get ahead in business.

The event – now in its third year – offers businesses of all shapes and sizes including those budding entrepreneurs who are thinking of starting a business, the opportunity to gain support, advice and guidance from professionals.

There are also workshops and seminars and networking events too. The event is FREE to enter and the majority of the three day event is FREE for businesses to attend, the exceptions to these are the Chamber of Commerce 90 minute lunch and the Ambassadors business breakfast.

The event is organised by Salisbury City Council, Salisbury and District Chamber of Commerce, Wiltshire Council, and the FSB with Salisbury Business Improvement District, Trethowans Solicitors, Blue Frontier web design, and Simon Ward Photography.
