Swindon’s Regent Circus to be demolished barely a decade after opening
A retail and leisure complex in Swindon is to be demolished barely a decade after opening.
Regent Circus, which was built on the former site of Swindon College, opened in 2014 with a promise to regenerate the town centre.
Instead, it gradually lost all of its tenants – starting with supermarket Morrisons in 2019 and finally saying goodbye to Cineworld last year.
Now, only Nando’s remains.
Today (Thursday) Swindon Borough Council approved an application by developer MCR Property Group’ to demolish all but the Nando’s.
That includes the car park to the rear of the complex and other cafe, restaurant, and bar units.
Work could start on a residential scheme as soon as the end of January this year.
