Bristol Airport to unveil new £11 million security scanners
Bristol Airport is to unveil next-generation security scanners, which will allow travellers to keep their mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and liquids in their hand luggage.
The airport says the £11.5 million investment also means travellers will no longer be required to carry toiletries and other liquids in 100 ml bottles in clear bags. From June 14, when the new system comes online, passengers will be able to carry bottles to a maximum of 300 ml in their hand luggage.
Graeme Gamble, chief operating officer at Bristol Airport, said: “All customers travelling from Bristol Airport will benefit from state-of-the-art technology being introduced at security.
“The new equipment will reduce customer stress and inconvenience. The new process delivers a much more customer-friendly security operation using the latest technology and providing enhanced screening, allowing customers to keep personal items in their hand luggage.”
The new security system is part of a wider £400 million investment in ‘customer enhancements’ at the airport over the next five years, which include a new public transport interchange, additional multi-storey car park, and new retail and catering areas.
