Zurich Community Trust awards Swindon Women’s Aid £30,000

Zurich Community Trust has awarded Swindon Women’s Aid – which works in the local community as Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service (SDASS) – a £30,000 grant to support their work tackling the root cause of domestic abuse for the coming year.

The grant award represents part of the Zurich Community Trust’s commitment to SDASS/Swindon Women’s Aid as one of their local charity partners, voted for by Swindon-based Zurich UK employees.

Their local partnerships enable charities to sustain and develop their work, reach out to those in need within their communities, and to help improve the quality of life for disadvantaged people.

This is the third instalment of the Zurich Community Trust’s current partnership with SDASS/Swindon Women’s Aid. In addition to supporting some of the core costs of the charity, the grant will be used to ensure the continuation of the charity’s preventative work.

This includes their work with children and young people in schools, and the Open2Change programme that works with people who use unhealthy behaviours, in order to prevent re-offending.

Kate Rowland, training and business development manager for SDASS, said: “We’re delighted to have received this grant from the Zurich Community Trust.

“This will be the third year we’ve been supported by Zurich employees and this grant is testament to the value that they recognise in the work that we do to tackle the root cause of domestic abuse.

“The work that our specialist teams do with the young people of Swindon will have an impact on them throughout their lives and teaches them about good friendships as well as healthy relationships.

“By empowering young people through our work with schools we can build confidence and resilience in the next generation.

“However, our goal is to also stop domestic abuse at the source. We can only do this by re-educating people who use unhealthy behaviours so that they acknowledge the impact of their behaviour and learn not to repeat it in the future.”

Laurie Deans, Head of Zurich Community Trust, said: “We are delighted to offer our support for a third consecutive year to Swindon Women’s Aid. I love that we can offer certainty of income through our multi-year partnerships, as well as working closely with our partners as part of our “More than Money” offering, to make an impact in our local communities.

“Zurich employees vote to support the charities and causes close to their hearts, which demonstrates just how important tackling this issue is to them.

“We are extremely proud to have Swindon Women’s Aid onboard as one of our charity partners, allowing us the opportunity to help enable the fundamental work they do in the community.

“Both through the support they offer to those currently experiencing domestic abuse, and through their preventative work.”
