Law firm’s golf day tees up £12k for charity

Wiltshire law firm Awdry Law has raised more than £12,000 for pregnancy and baby loss charity Sands after staging its biggest charity golf day to date at Bowood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort.

The firm brought together 92 guests from businesses across the South West and further afield for the event on 10 September.

The day raised £12,019.92 for Sands, with the total potentially set to double through the Big Give Campaign 2026.

Players took part in a full round of golf alongside fundraising challenges including a closest-to-the-pin simulator contest, a Beat the Pro competition and the chance to “take the pro’s drive” on the 10th hole.

The day ended with a barbecue-style dinner, prizegiving ceremony and auction, with Bowood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort providing the venue and hospitality.

Tim Hotchkiss, partner and head of land and development at Awdry Law, said: “This is the largest and most successful charity golf day we have ever hosted as a business and we are exceptionally proud to have been able to raise such a significant sum for Sands.

“The weather was kind to us fortunately and we have received so many positive comments from those that attended.

“We could not have done it without the support of Mark Sealey and the team at Bowood, nor without the sterling efforts of Awdry Law’s very own organising committee who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and the army of volunteers on hand to ensure that the day ran smoothly.

“I witnessed many interactions between our volunteers and attendees with great pride. They really are a credit to Awdry Law and a testament to the positive culture that we strive for as a business.

“Finally, I want to place on record my sincere gratitude for the support and generosity shown by everyone that attended, not to mention our hole sponsors and donors. Your support really does make a huge difference.”

Sands supports people affected by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby, while also working to improve bereavement care and reduce the number of babies dying.

Chloȅ Brunton-Dunn, senior partnerships officer for Sands, said: “We are so grateful to Awdry Law for their support of Sands. It’s been fantastic to see colleagues come together to hold a successful Golf Day, and the team have raised a brilliant amount with their efforts.

“This fundraising will help to make a huge difference to our life-saving work at Sands. The positive impact of Awdry Law’s partnership with Sands will help us to reach more people with the support that they need after pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.”

Awdry Law, which has offices in Bath, Chippenham, Devizes, Marlborough, Royal Wootton Bassett and Swindon, said the golf day’s record total reflected the generosity of attendees, sponsors and donors. The firm confirmed the fundraising total in a post-event update published on 24 September.
