Swindon accountant to tackle 50km ultramarathon for charity
A Swindon accountant is to tackle a 50km (31 mile) ultramarathon this July in support of bereavement charity Wiltshire Treehouse.
Sally Holland, a partner at PPS Chartered Accountants, will take part in Race to the Stones, a scenic but tough trail run along Britain’s oldest path, the Ridgeway, covering 50km from Wantage to Avebury next Sunday, July 13.
Sally’s passion for running began somewhat unexpectedly. “I just decided to go for a run one day. I’d never really liked it before,” she said.
“I went out with my mother-in-law, joined the Highworth Running Club and gradually started enjoying longer distances. It turns out I’m better suited to slow, steady endurance runs.”
Since then, Sally’s running journey has included everything from the London Marathon, which she ran in 2015, to 100km endurance events.
Of Wiltshire Treehouse she said: “They do incredible work supporting children and young people who are grieving the loss of a parent, sibling, or loved one. It’s such an important cause, and I’m proud to be helping raise awareness and funds for them.”
PPS Chartered Accountants has previously supported Wiltshire Treehouse through its Business Charity Breakfasts, including raising over £400 at their event in March.
“This run is going to be tough, but so worth it,” said Sally. “I do it because I love the freedom of being outdoors, the challenge of pushing myself, and, in this case, knowing that it’s for a really important cause.”
