Haines Watts accountants help Swindon Film celebrate its 80th year
Accountancy firm Haines Watts Swindon is the latest to sign up to support Swindon Film’s 80th anniversary later this year.
Swindon Film, which like Haines Watts Swindon is based in Old Town, shows predominantly new, award-winning international films at the Arts Centre in Devizes Road.
It is run by a team of nine volunteers, and is a not-for-profit organisation.
The film society shows 14 films a season, on a Wednesday evening between September and March.
Swindon Film will be 80 years old in 2027 – which makes it one of the oldest film societies in the country – and plans to celebrate this by making even more people aware of this entertainment in Old Town.
The society’s chair, Robert Elrick, said the committee carefully curates the series of films so that there is a range of styles from all over the world.
“We strongly believe that most people in the world, wherever they are from, have an awful lot in common,” said Robert
“The films we choose reflect the drama, tragedy and comedy that life holds for most of us, and reinforces that despite superficial differences we all have shared experiences that bind us together, rather than keep us apart.
“Swindon Film is a not-for-profit organisation, so to have some financial support from yet another supporter of Old Town activity will help us make our 80th year really special.”
Emma Skinner, a director at Haines Watts Swindon – pictured here with fellow director Martin Gurney – said they jumped at the chance to support the 80th birthday.
“We are huge supporters of Old Town generally, and Swindon Film is a gem,” said Emma.
“As a company with so many clients based nearby, as well as many who enjoy coming into Old Town to eat and drink and socialise here, it makes absolute sense to help celebrate something that really puts Swindon on the national film map.
“We’re really looking forward to another exciting season of Swindon Film, and are delighted to help make it the celebration it should be.”
