From November 18 all company directors and people with significant control must have verified their identity with Companies House by their personal due date.

From this month you’ll have to verify your identity with Companies House

Just over a  week remains before Companies House starts enforcing new digital identity verification procedures for company directors, says Martin Gurney of Haines Watts.

From November 18 all company directors and people with significant control must have verified their identity with Companies House by their personal due date.

The public register will begin showing due dates from that day.

This is not optional; it will become a legal requirement.

Identity verification becomes a two-step process:

  1. Verify your identity and receive your Companies House personal code.
  2. Provide your code to confirm you’re verified for each role you hold.

If you’ve already verified, you won’t need to do it again, but you must still provide your personal code for each role.

You can verify either directly via GOV.UK One Login, or through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider.

From 18 November, you cannot file a confirmation statement unless all directors have verified and provided their code.

  • Filings will be rejected if codes are missing.
  • Penalties and prosecution may follow for ongoing non-compliance.

Economic crime costs the UK billions. Verification reduces the risk of impersonation and protects legitimate businesses like yours.

For most people, this will take only a few minutes and only needs to be done once.
