Solarsense reports revenue boom as companies seek energy security

The rising costs of electricity and business’s desire to tackle climate change have led to a 40 per cent revenue increase at Bristol-based renewable energy contractor Solarsense.

The ahead-of-the-curve company – which made £14 million last year, up from £10 million the year before – has delivered 15,500 solar installations since it was established 30 years ago by MD Stephen Barrett.

They have since delivered over 15,500 solar installations with recent commissions not only in the commercial sector – which accounts for up to 85 per cent of their business and includes multi-national companies, private schools and colleges, and council-managed buildings, and arts venues like the Bristol Old Vic – but from organisations like the Crown Estate in Windsor and environmental charities including the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge, and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.

“Last year was phenomenal for the solar industry, with nearly 200,000 installations in the UK,” said Stephen.

“At Solarsense demand has reflected that growth and some. We have seen a huge increase in enquiries – a 400 per cent rise from sectors like manufacturing warehousing, airports and data centres.

“And companies are coming back to us wanting to expand on existing systems, on rooftops and via increasingly popular carports. Our team have expanded in kind – more than doubling over the last two years.”

Stephen puts the rising popularity of solar schemes down to a growing ambition to tackle climate change, an awareness of the role of renewables in an organisation’s ESG policy, and the much lower cost of panels and the rising costs of electricity which means solar is offering the best returns ever seen.

And with better battery technology the company says solar power will become an increasingly popular option for businesses.
