Thames Water appoints new chief executive
Utilities giant Thames Water has named its new chief executive. Chris Weston, former head of power supplier Aggreko, will take the helm at the Reading-based company.
The firm has been without a CEO since Sarah Bentley quit in June.
Weston joins as Thames Water faces scrutiny over its financial health and probes into its treatment of sewage.
The UK’s largest water firm – which serves 15 million customers in Swindon & Wiltshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, and in London – is seeking to raise new equity of £2.5 billion from shareholders in the coming years, in addition to £750 million already pledged.
“I am looking forward to joining Thames Water at this crucial time for the business and the wider water sector,” said Weston.
“Working with the team I will be focused on delivering the turnaround that the business has outlined and improving performance over the next few years.
“I recognise that this business is critical to both society and the UK and how important it is that we restore confidence in our operations and financial position.”
