Swindon office blocks become waterfront properties as mains water pipe bursts
Office blocks in Swindon have unexpectedly become waterfront properties this morning (Thursday) after a water main burst.
Swindon Borough Council – which posted these dramatic pictures of the incident to its social media feeds – said the flooding was caused by “a failed connection to the new water main.” Thames Water has been installing the pipes as part of the Fleming Way redevelopment.
It is understood that the flooding is contained to the construction site and has not impacted the offices, which include the two-year-old UK headquarters of insurance firm Zurich, the Tri-Centre – recently redeveloped by FI Real Estate Management – and The Parade shopping zone.
However, many residential properties in the SN1 postcode have been affected by loss of water supply.
