Swindon accountancy firm welcomes new apprentice

Swindon accountancy firm PPS Chartered Accountants has welcomed new apprentice Oakley Reed to the team as the Swindon-based firm continues to invest in developing future talent within the industry.

Eighteen-year-old Oakley, who grew up in Swindon and recently moved to Wroughton, joined PPS earlier this year and has already settled in well with the team.

After attending Lawn Manor Academy and later North Star College, Oakley decided he wanted to pursue a career in accountancy, building on what he describes as a long-standing love of maths and numbers.

“When I was choosing my GCSEs, my mum suggested accountancy because it combined my interest in maths with something practical,” said Oakley. “It just made sense to me from then on.”

Oakley joined PPS as an apprentice with plans to complete his AAT qualification before progressing further in the profession. His longer-term goal is to become a Chartered Accountant, something he hopes to achieve while continuing his career at PPS.

Sally Holland, partner at PPS Chartered Accountants, said Oakley had already made a strong impression. “From the start, Oakley came across as someone genuinely interested in building a long-term career in accountancy. He’s settled in really well and has been a great fit for the team.”

She added that supporting apprentices remains important to PPS. “The industry needs good people coming through, and apprenticeships are such a valuable way of doing that. You learn so much on the job alongside studying, and it gives people a real feel for the profession early on.”

Oakley said one of the biggest changes has been moving from education into full-time work. “I definitely prefer working to school or college,” he said. “The days go much quicker and everyone at PPS has been really friendly and welcoming.”
