Nutricia joins campaign to empower the UK’s carers
Europe’s largest medical nutrition company, Nutricia Advanced Medical Nutrition, has joined the campaign to provide greater support for millions of UK carers.
It’s estimated around two million people in the UK become carers each year, providing essential support for another person for 35 hours or more each week.
However these carers often struggle to access information and advice. The theme of today’s Carers Rights Day is Looking After Someone? Know Your Rights. The national campaign will focus on:
- Making carers aware of their rights. Many struggle to navigate the maze of services and entitlements missing out on financial and practical support.
- Letting carers know where to get help and support locally.
- Raising awareness by enabling decision makers and professionals to provide an environment where carers are respected, valued and supported.
One area where carers often cannot – or may not even think of getting advice – is around nutrition and diet. Trowbridge-based Nutricia has been campaigning around this issue for several years.
Kate Hall, external affairs manager for Nutricia , said: It’s very easy to overlook nutrition when carers often have to consider so many other things. However, eating well is so important especially for someone who requires a degree of care from another.
“Carers are key to spotting problems at an early stage so we wish to promote the message that carers need to be able to get the right information at the right time, they need to know where to go to find that information about eating well and they need to be empowered to ask for help.”
Nutricia has been a partner with Carers UK for four years and will be supporting numerous events around the country. Staff will be helping with collections as well as offering advice and support.
Nutricia specialises in the delivery of advanced medical nutrition for the very young, the old and the sick. As well as being the largest medical nutrition company in Europe, Nutricia is the market leader in the UK.
