Wallace & Gromit to return for new film in 2024
Animated duo Wallace & Gromit are making a return to the small screen in 2024, Bristol-based studio Aardman has announced.
The dotty inventor and his long-suffering dog will be back in a new film that will premier on the BBC in the Uk, and on Netflix around the rest of the world.
Directed by Wallace & Gromit creator Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham, creative director of Wallace & Gromit, the film sees Gromit becoming concerned that Wallace is a little too dependent on his inventions.
When Wallace’s ‘Smart Gnome’ develops a mind of its own, it falls to Gromit to battle sinister forces and save his master…or Wallace may never be able to invent again.
The iconic pair last starred in an original film back in 2008 – the BAFTA Award-winning A Matter of Loaf and Death.
Sean Clarke, the managing director of Aardman, added: “Wallace and Gromit are so loved by everyone at Aardman – they’re like family to us, and we couldn’t be more excited to be creating a brand-new film for them to star in.
“When Nick came up with the concept for a ‘smart gnome’, we all agreed that Wallace would find the idea irresistible – despite warnings from Gromit, who is wise beyond his (dog) years. We’re sure audiences will find the story irresistible too.”
Charlotte Moore, the BBC’s chief content officer, said: “It’s incredibly exciting to be taking British audiences on a cracking new adventure with Wallace & Gromit and to be continuing our long relationship with Aardman and Nick Park following the success of Shaun the Sheep this Christmas.”
The studio has also announced a sequel to its first feature-length film, Chicken Run, which was released back in 2000 and starred Hollywood legend Mel Gibson as a rooster.
