Parliament’s self-build champion to open NSBRC show

Parliamentarian Richard Bacon, the MP who introduced the bill that led to the Self-Build and Custom Housebuilding Act 2015 will officially open the National Self Build & Renovation Show next Friday.

Over three thousand people will be exploring a range of topics from planning and plot finding, to smart homes and solar panels at the National Self Build & Renovation Centre, the award-winning Self Build Visitor Centre based in Swindon.

The show offers three days of live demonstrations, seminars and an unrivalled line up of experts on hand to share their homebuilding advice, and is aimed at people thinking about extending their home, renovating a tired property, or buying a plot of land and building a brand new home.

Managing director Harvey Fremlin said: ““We are very pleased to welcome Richard Bacon MP to the NSBRC. This follows on from a visit by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in November and shows that the government is serious about making self build for accessible.

“It is important as, put simply, it encourages better housing. Self build homes are well designed and energy efficient.”

Show highlights include:

  • A busy programme of seminars, live demonstrations and case studies
  • Guided tours of the NSBRC’s life-size educational exhibits
    Over 250 exhibitors
  • Self build course taster sessions
  • Free one-to-one expert advice

The show runs from Friday, January 31 until Sunday, February 2. Tickets are £12 on the door or free in advance from www.nsbrc.co.uk

The NSBRC currently has a 30-second advert running on Channel 4’s digital TV catch up service, so viewers of their Homes on 4 programmes such as Grand Designs and George Clarkes Amazing Spaces will see what the unique visitor centre can offer budding home builders.
