Indie catering supplier aims to take on ‘global behemoth that is Amazon’
A new, 100 per cent electric hospitality supplier launched in Bristol this week.
Bristol Catering Supplies offers independent restaurants, cafés, bars and caterers a streamlined way to source everything from dry stores, cleaning supplies, takeaway packaging, and specialist ingredients.
The company aims to reduce the operational headaches faced by busy kitchens by consolidating multiple suppliers into a single, easy-to-use system.
Customers can order until midnight for next-day delivery via a tailored online portal.
The company also pledges to beat current supplier prices and freeze them for 12 months at a time, offering much-needed cost certainty in a challenging trading environment.
By consolidating deliveries and operating a fleet of electric vans, Bristol Catering Supplies says it can help businesses reduce delivery emissions by up to 75%, putting sustainability at the heart of the new business model.
The business is targeting a wide cross-section of the city’s hospitality sector, including independent restaurants, street food traders, event caterers, schools and care homes.
It already works with a number of well-known names in the region, including Hyde & Co, Kibou and Bianchis, with distinctive purple vans about to be seen serving up supplies to Bristol hospitality teams soon.
The business is launching with an initial target of onboarding 50 Bristol-based customers in 2026, with a focus on building long-term relationships and supporting multi-site operators.
Founder Phil Penwarden said: ““Bristol is an incredible city for independent restaurants, bars, venues and hotels, which brings with it the challenge of having a huge amount of suppliers driving throughout the city, driving up emissions.
“As partners of Hyde and Co for many years, we are taking the leap to bring the business to the wider food community, in a bid to bring down costs, reduce the amount of vans in the city and bring the fight to the global behemoth that is Amazon.”
