Dream holidays don’t have to stay a dream, says financial expert

With summer just around the corner, financial expert, Dave Southby, of Southby & Co Financial Planning says your dream holiday doesn’t have to stay a dream.

Operating out of Wroughton, Swindon, Dave Southby founded his financial planning business to support his community with their pensions, investments, and reaching their financial goals.

With the State Pension age soon to be 68, and likely rise, retirement can feel far away for many. But Dave says that with the right planning, dream experiences don’t have remain in the imagination.

“I encourage my clients to think about what they want retirement to look like, which includes any dream holidays or experiences they want to fulfil, then ensuring we include it as part of their plan,” said Dave.

“I believe that any dream is achievable with the right planning, and dedication to stay on track. The first part of that is to write them down and make it a part of your future.

“Write down a list of holidays or experiences you want to do and make sure you make it part of your plan. You can work backwards as to how much you would need to allocate financially to achieve these goals.”

Dave says that through prioritising your objectives, selecting the right tax wrappers and investments, and continually reviewing your finances against your plans ensures you’re track to make take that dream trip, holiday or occasion.

“I feel a lot of people have a ‘bucket list’ but don’t add them to their financial plans.

“Having goals written down helps make them more achievable, if you have already planned and budgeted for your dream experiences, then it makes you more likely to actually do them without any guilt.”
