Berkshire software firm acquired by European AI firm

A Berkshire-based document management software provider has been acquired by European AI firm.

Calico IIM’s acquisition of Filestream is its first UK deal and its entry into the British market.

FileStream, which has spent more than 20 years building electronic content management software, will remain focused on its core business of helping organisations store, protect and access information securely.

Its customer base includes firms in sectors such as education, healthcare, maritime and financial services.

Calico IIM is an Intelligent Information Management group that helps organisations turn documents into actionable information using a proprietary AI platform.

Calico IIM said the acquisition will give FileStream access to its proprietary LM-Kit AI platform, opening the door to new capabilities including document classification and data extraction.

The group said FileStream will keep its name, team and customer relationships.

The deal is part of Calico IIM’s buy-and-build strategy across Europe, with the group saying it is actively looking for further acquisitions in the ECM and document management space.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

For FileStream, the deal means a larger international platform, AI-enabled product development and a route into new markets, while retaining the identity it has built over two decades.

Calico IIM, meanwhile, gets an established UK operator with an existing client base and a long track record in secure document management.
