Marlborough and Devizes connect to gigabit broadband
Lightning-speed broadband arrives at two Wiltshire market towns as internet service provider Giganet continues its £250 million investment into the South West’s broadband.
Network installation has been completed in the first areas of Marlborough and Devizes whose homes can now benefit from download speeds of 1000mbs, 100 times faster than some residents previously experienced.
The work forms part of Giganet’s wider UK rollout bringing better broadband infrastructure to homes, supporting the Government’s target of 85 per cent of UK premises to have access to gigabit-capable broadband by 2025.
Said to be the most reliable and future-proof form of gigabit-capable broadband, full fibre brings lightning-fast connections to the domestic market. Currently half of UK households have access to full fibre.
Tristan Tavernier, head of design network build at Giganet, said: “We’re a year into the build programme and it’s an exciting prospect that we’re now beginning to allow smaller communities to log on to hyper-fast broadband and not feel like they’ve been left behind.
“At every step we’ve tried to communicate disruption as best we can and follow our mantra of being honest and transparent. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but we’re firmly on track to meet our 2024 target.”
