Bristol medical simulation manufacturer expands HQ
Medical simulation manufacturer Limbs & Things has expanded its Bristol headquarters with a major investment in new manufacturing and warehouse facilities, increasing production capacity by 70 per cent to support its continued international growth.
It officially unveiled its new premises this week, adjacent to its existing factory and offices on Sussex Street in St Philips, Bristol.
The site expands the company’s manufacturing footprint by 50 per cent – to around 5,500 square metres – and increases warehouse capacity by 70 per cent.
The investment will enable Limbs & Things to scale production, reduce lead times and strengthen inventory management as demand for its medical training products continues to grow worldwide.
Limbs & Things now supplies customers in 106 countries, with all products designed, manufactured and distributed from its Bristol headquarters.
Nick Hull, managing director, said: “Over the last 35-plus years, we have grown the business in Bristol and we are delighted to continue our investment in the city.
“During the past year, the new manufacturing facility has been carefully developed and tailored to support our specialist manufacturing processes, and we’re thrilled to be able to officially unveil it.
“This investment significantly expands our silicone pouring and manufacturing footprint, while providing additional warehousing capacity to support our ambitious growth plans.
“It also enhances the working environment for our skilled team and allows us to improve productivity as we continue our pursuit of manufacturing excellence.
“We are wholly committed to our mission of improving patient outcomes, and this milestone represents another exciting step forward in achieving that goal.”
The expansion is also expected to create up to 12 new jobs in 2026, increasing the company’s UK workforce to 200 and 236 globally.
Founded in Bristol by medical illustrator Margot Cooper, Limbs & Things has grown into one of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of medical task trainers – realistic models used by healthcare professionals to practice clinical procedures safely before performing them on patients.
The company designs and manufactures more than 100 simulation products, covering procedures ranging from routine examinations to emergency interventions – from catheter insertions and chest drain procedures to childbirth simulation, with its world-leading PROMPT Flex birthing simulator.
In the last two years, new developments include:
- Augmented Reality, a training tool that allows trainees to visualise internal anatomy of Limbs & Things simulation models on their smart device
- CaRE, an anatomically accurate cardiovascular and respiratory examination trainer with patented synchronisation of heart and lung sounds, with movement to help clinicians recognise life-threatening conditions
- The Arterial Puncture Wrist, a high-fidelity simulator with a palpable pulse and realistic pressure for practising arterial blood gas sampling and cannulation
The expansion in Bristol marks the latest step in Limbs & Things’ long-term strategy to invest in advanced manufacturing and product innovation whilst maintaining its global production base in the city where it was founded.
