Wiltshire’s £1.5bn visitor economy supported with new partnership

A new partnership aims to support Wiltshire’s £1.5 billion visitor economy.

Wiltshire Council, VisitWiltshire and other partners recently held the first meeting of the new Local Visitor Economy Partnership Board.

The board will play a key role in shaping the future of tourism throughout the county, working closely with national bodies such as VisitEngland and VisitBritain to unlock new opportunities for investment, promotion, and sustainable growth.

Cllr Helen Belcher, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for economic development and skills, said: “This first meeting marks an exciting milestone for reviving and encouraging tourism in Wiltshire.

“Tourism is a vital part of Wiltshire’s economy and identity, and supporting its growth is a priority for the council.

“The formation of the LVEP Board is a significant step towards meeting our commitment.

“By bringing together voices from across the county, we can tap into a wealth of local knowledge and expertise, ensuring that Wiltshire’s unique heritage, landscapes, and visitor experiences are promoted in a way that benefits our communities and local businesses.”

David Andrews, chief executive of VisitWiltshire said: “Since May, when VisitWiltshire was accredited by VisitEngland as the Local Visitor Economy Partnership for Wiltshire, we have had a great response from Wiltshire Council, supporting partners, 10 Wiltshire towns and businesses in support of the new LVEP advisory board.

“A first task for the new board, starting now, will be to work collaboratively with us and Wiltshire Council to develop a new Wiltshire Destination Management and Growth Plan – a five-year shared plan for managing, developing, marketing and investing in Wiltshire’s visitor economy.”
