Metro mayor backs banking hubs announcement
Plans to roll out hundreds of new ‘banking hubs’ to offset the recent trend of high street bank closures have been welcomed by West of England metro mayor Dan Norris.
The Labour Party announced yesterday (Tuesday) that if it wins the election it will open 350 banking hubs in towns and villages across the country over the next five years.
The shared banking spaces offer counter service jointly operated by different lenders and the Post Office where customers of major banks and building societies can pay their bills, seek banking advice, and deposit cash and cheques.
Dan is Labour’s candidate for North-East Somerset and Hanham. Until parliament was dissolved the seat was held by Jacob Rees-Mogg. Dan Norris won the seat in 1997 and held it until being dislodged by Sir Jacob in 2010.
North East Somerset and Hanham has lost over half of its high street bank branches since 2015. Keynsham, which is in the constituency, already has a banking hub.
“With Labour’s plan to bring banking back to the high street, along with replacing business rates and cutting energy bills for good, we will breathe new life back into North East Somerset and Hanham’s high streets,” said Dan.
