Dyson to invest £2.75 billion in AI and robotics to create new products

Wiltshire-based electricals giant Dyson is to invest £2.75 billion in new technology over the next five years – with robotics among the new areas to be researched.

Dyson – which made its name in cordless vacuum cleaners before expanding into hair styling products, home fans, and air purifiers – said it wants to double its product range by 2025 including devices that would take it beyond the home.

It also plans investment in the solid state battery technology it was developing for an electric car project that it scrapped in 2019.

Robotics, motor technology, intelligent products and machine learning will also receive investment, it said.

The investment will be divided between its two campuses at Malmesbury and Hullavington, where it employs 4,000 staff, and at its global HQ in Singapore.
