Artists bring a splash of colour to Swindon’s central business district – and beyond
Street artists have brought a splash of colour to Swindon’s central business district, with Zurich’s Unity Place and Newbridge Square providing a backdrop for the Swindon Paint Festival Live Street Art Jam.
Luke Smile’s eye-catching Smile mural will give a cheerful welcome to commuters approaching the Commercial Road crossing. His calligraffiti is flanked by murals featuring scenes from the animal kingdom, fantasy characters, and Tokyo street art, and abstracts.
At Artsite, in Theatre Square, a human model became the canvas as body painters Sue Bardwell and Ellie Baskerville blended Jordanne Clarkmua into Neon Punk Girl by Swindon artist Jaksta.
And while the paint festival took over hoardings, boards and gable ends in prominent positions around Swindon’s town centre and old town, there were also some hidden gems worth checking out – like Ed Poster’s Naughty by Nature, which saw a single-storey building in Rodbourne transformed into a three-dimensional breeze block mounted by a racoon and a fox.
