Plans to turn office block into flats revealed

Plans by a social housing provider to turn its former Wiltshire office into 30 flats have been revealed.

Green Square Accord wants to convert the offices at Methuen Park in Chippenham.

It is preparing to submit formal plans to Wiltshire Council for planning permission, documents show.

The site is close to the Chequers Roundabout and the Aldi supermarket on the A4.

If the housing association gets the go-ahead, it will create 18 one-bed flats and 12 two-bed flats with parking for 49 cars.

The association says the three-storey development will create less traffic than the office accommodation that came before it.

The 2,000 sq m office block was built 20 years ago and has been occupied by Green Square Accord for more than 10 years.

Green Square Accord is a housing association and care provider. It owns and manages affordable and social-rented homes, provides supported housing and care services, maintains existing properties, and develops new affordable homes across the Midlands and parts of the South West, including Wiltshire.

Green Square Accord was created on 1 April 2021, when Green Square Group – based in the South West, including Chippenham – merged with Accord Housing Association, which had a substantial Midlands housing and care operation.

At the time of the merger, the combined group had more than 26,000 homes and around 2,800 staff and 54,000 customers.

Its 2021–22 financial statements described it as a registered society and exempt charity providing housing and related services across the West Midlands, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.
