M&S names towns where it wants to open stores

Marks & Spencer has published a list of 500 locations across the UK where it is looking to open new stores.

The company currently operates more than 220 full-line and 310 M&S Food stores across the UK, with a further 20 scheduled to open before the end of the financial year, creating around 800 new jobs.

The retailer says it plans to expand its number of M&S Food stores in the UK to around 420 by the end of 2028.

However, it wants to reduce the number of full-line stores to 180.

The group is looking for retail opportunities of 18,000 sq ft, including some locations in Wiltshire, Bristol & Bath, and Berkshire.

Alex Freudmann, managing director of M&S Food, said: “The strong performance of our new M&S food stores gives us the confidence to explore even more locations across the UK.

“With more than twenty stores opening or modernised before the end of the financial year, we are moving faster.

“Our team want new sites where we could open a large M&S Food store as we deliver on our strategy to bring the right stores to the right places and offer the best shopping experience, range and availability for our customers.”
