140-year-old laundry makes a clean break to new premises
A laundry that can trace its history back over 140 years has relocated to Corsham.
Regency Laundry, which was established in Bath in 1879 and has operated in the city ever since, has signed a deal on a unit in Corsham with commercial property developer HPH.
Having outgrown its current site in Bath, Regency Laundry needed to find suitable, modern, flexible space from which to service its expanding client base.
In 2020, HPH were introduced to a laundry business with a unit on the Leafield Industrial Estate by Alison Williams at Carter Jonas.
HPH agreed to purchase the unit with vacant possession and then agreed to lease the property to Regency Laundry.
As part of the deal, HPH is providing investment in the buildings and assisting Regency Laundry with facility management advice.
The 15 year deal with a five-year break clause is for 20,000 sq. ft of space in three buildings.
Stuart Calder, managing director at Regency Laundry, said, “As part of our development plans, to allow us to grow the business, we need more space. This is something our current laundry in Bath simply cannot accommodate.
“Thankfully, our deal with HPH has given us the opportunity to invest in class-leading technologies and further advance the quality of service Regency Laundry offers.”
Lindsay Holdoway, managing director of HPH, added, “Bath has long suffered a shortage of industrial space owing to its relatively poor road infrastructure, limited housing stock and resulting high industrial rents.
“Leafield Industrial Estate in Corsham is able to provide a suitable alternative near Bath with the added benefits of room for expansion, good transport links and lower overheads.
“This was a particularly challenging transaction during the pandemic as it involved the relocation of the existing business, acquisition of the freehold with a simultaneous lease agreement with Regency Laundry, followed by repairs and improvements to assist after the move.
“We are delighted to be working with Regency Laundry, providing them with the space they need to continue the development of their business.
“The fact that they have been in business for 125 years is testament to the quality of the services they provide and the strong relationships they have built with their clients.”
