Council appoints agent to market town centre regeneration site
Commercial real estate advisory firm Avison Young has been appointed to help market Kimmerfields, the flagship regeneration site in the heart of Swindon, as the council steps up efforts to bring forward one of its biggest town-centre development opportunities.
The move – announced at UK Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum in Leeds – marks another stage in the long-running plan to transform the former industrial land into a mixed-use district with homes, offices and public space.
Kimmerfields covers about four acres and sits next to Zurich’s new £31 million headquarters on Fleming Way.
Swindon Borough Council’s vision for the site includes up to 250 homes, 200,000 sq ft of office space and the potential for a cultural quarter, alongside new roads, drainage, utilities and landscaped public realm.
The council fully acquired the site in March 2021 and has since invested in site clearance and infrastructure work to prepare it for development.
Kimmerfields is one of the more significant pieces in Swindon’s regeneration jigsaw, sitting alongside wider plans around Fleming Way and the broader town-centre renewal programme.
The council says the scheme could deliver an extra £44 million in economic benefit over 25 years, underlining its importance not just as a building project but as a potential driver of local growth.
