Chippenham, Bristol and Bath businesses among the fastest growing in UK, according to Sunday Times Hundred 2023

Chippenham-based Furniturebox, Bristol-based Sintela and Socially Responsible Recruitment, and Bath-based Abbott Lyon and Network N are among the UK’s fastest growing companies, according to the Sunday Times Hundred 2023.

Online furniture retailer Furniturebox was 59th in the annual list of best performing private companies – achieving sales of £15.9 million last year and 70.96 per cent growth over the last three years.

Monty George, 26, and Daniel Beckles, 25, started the company after leaving Bishop Wordsworth’s grammar school in Salisbury in 2015.

They began selling to the US last summer, then moved to an 88,000 sq ft purpose-built warehouse off the M4 at St Modwen Park, which was funded from retained profits.

The Sunday Times said the company would aim to boost sales further this year by developing new product ranges, including beds, sofas and wardrobes.

George said: “We are delighted to have been featured in the Sunday Times Hundred for the second year running.

“This is down to the fantastic efforts of the team we have assembled and the excellent value for money and customer service we provide.

“This year will be the busiest in our history and it is really exciting to be making progress in the United States.”

Furniturebox employs 53 people at the new headquarters which has transformed its fortunes and speeded up deliveries.

In Bristol, remote sensors developer Sintela is ranked sixth with annual sales growth over three years 231.40 per cent.

US-Mexico border, oil pipelines, and busy railways are among the critical infrastructure that can be constantly monitored by the company.

And tech and digital recruitment company Socially Responsible Recruitment, launched by first-time entrepreneur Chris Sheard, is ranked at 34 with annual sales growth over three years 104.17 per cent.

In Bath, jewellery and accessories retailer Abbott Lyon is at 42nd place on the list, with annual sales growth over three years 86.76 per cent thanks in no small part to collaborations with celebrities including the Loose Women host Stacey Solomon and the former EastEnders actress Maisie Smith.

And 84th on the list is Bath-based digital advertising company for the gaming industry, Network N, founded by ex-Future Publishing employees James Binns and Tim Edwards in 2012.

The firm has reported annual sales growth over three years 58.72 per cent.
