Calne business leaders quiz bank’s inside man

Calne business leaders have been given the chance to quiz South West’s man inside the Bank of England about the state of the economy.

The meeting, between members of Calne Chamber of Commerce and Geoff Harding, the South West’s deputy agent to the Bank of England, was also a chance for the agent to collect on-the-ground intelligence, which can then be fed back to the bank’s influential Monetary Policy Committee.

The meeting was arranged by Wessex Chambers, which invites Geoff to meet representatives from its 18 affiliated local chambers.

Organiser Stefan Barbaruk said: “These panel meetings have been a good barometer on how the business community is faring, plus it provides the Bank of England grass roots feedback before they decide on interest and inflation rates.”
