South West businesses target £331m AI growth prize

More than 50 South West businesses have gathered in Bristol for hands-on AI training as new research suggests the region could unlock an estimated £331 million in additional revenue through greater adoption of the technology.

The Bristol event, part of Intuit’s More with AI Tour, was held at We The Curious in partnership with the British Chambers of Commerce and Business West.

The event offered local firms free workshops on using AI to boost productivity, streamline operations and drive growth.

The push comes as employment across the South West has fallen by 1.77 per cent, equivalent to 6,300 jobs, underlining the pressure facing businesses in the region.

Delegates explored practical uses of AI across marketing, business planning, automation and responsible adoption. Sessions also covered AI-powered tools available through platforms including QuickBooks and Mailchimp.

Michael Kennedy, senior vice-president and chief corporate affairs officer at Intuit, said: “Governments across the globe have set ambitious goals for AI adoption and workforce upskilling, and small and mid-market businesses are central to achieving them.

“At Intuit, we help businesses thrive in the era of AI by not only building powerful products, but equipping business owners with the knowledge and confidence to use them effectively.

“These businesses are a driving force of economic growth and innovation, and they deserve education and support as technology evolves. Through our partnerships with BCC and Business West, we’re bringing that commitment directly to the communities where it matters most.”

Businesses attending included Bristol Menopause & Wellwoman Clinic, Hornbeam Workplace Wellbeing and WildHome, spanning healthcare, workplace wellbeing, housing and community development.

Tim Hayden, co-founder of North Somerset-based Menopause & Wellwoman Clinic, said the focus was on using AI to reach more women while preserving the personal approach at the heart of the family-run business.

Claire Bennet, founder of Cheltenham-based Hornbeam Workplace Wellbeing, said the event offered a chance to explore how AI could support marketing, planning and growth.

Rober Faulkner, of Bristol community-focused developer WildHome, examined how AI could improve efficiency and innovation in housing and regeneration.

The Bristol workshop follows an earlier event in Manchester. Intuit’s UK tour will continue in Barnsley and Rotherham on November 13.
